Emerald Buddha, 2021-2022
Project Type
Fine Art
Date
December 2021
The most exquisite Emerald Buddha consists of 3 Emerald Buddha statues in the imperial attire: Summer, Winter, and Rainy seasons. They are cast in premium resin, colored in jade and gilded with gold leaf, and decorated with crystals by skilled craftsmen. Therefore, we focus on quality and meticulous attention to every step of the production process.
The Buddha statues were filled with sacred relics and consecrated at Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai Province, the first temple in Thailand where the Emerald Buddha was discovered. His Holiness Phra Rattana Muni, Assistant Professor Dr., the provincial abbot of Chiang Rai, presided over the consecration ceremony in the ancient Lanna style.
According to the legend of the Emerald Buddha, the record appended to the Northern Chronicles states that the Emerald Buddha was first discovered in Thailand at Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai Province. It was originally called Wat Pa Yia (Bamboo Forest). An important event in the discovery of the Emerald Buddha occurred in 1977 when lightning struck a pagoda in the temple, causing it to collapse, revealing the Emerald Buddha. At that time, the Emerald Buddha was a Buddha image covered with ordinary gold leaf (because it was covered with plaster, making the real Buddha image invisible). As time passed, the plaster chipped off, revealing the true Buddha image, which was green glass throughout. (Currently, the Emerald Buddha is enshrined at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, the Grand Palace.) The people of Chiang Rai therefore called this temple "Wat Phra Kaew" until today.
The Emerald Buddha contains sacred relics and has undergone a Buddhist consecration ceremony, which is a sign of great auspiciousness. Therefore, it is suitable for worshipping to bring good fortune to the owner and his family.
Part of the income from the sale will be donated to the temple to support Buddhism and to create a 30-inch Emerald Buddha image of the 3 seasons to be donated to Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai Province. The gold plate containing the names of all those who ordered will be placed under the base of the Buddha image. And offer 9 sets of 5-inch Emerald Buddhas to 9 more temples.
